A Teenage Girl is Molested by Hundreds of Men in a 11 Hour Ordeal

A 15 year old teenage girl was mauled and molested by hundreds of men in an incident in India. Traumatic and unbelievable as this is, one of the things that I have find particularly distressing is that NGOs and Women's groups in India would like to \"rehabilitate\" her with her community.

In my work with violence on women in India -- this is one of the many factors that I am completely at odds with women's NGOs in India. The attempt of women's groups in India is to preserve the family and community structure. And it disregards human psychology and I think that this IS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR towards increasing violence on Indian women.

Take the recent incident for instance in the UK. A senior diplomat batters his wife and then the INdian government gives him diplomatic immunity! They even chided the wife for making her plight public. In a t.v. show in India the audience thought the government made a good move doing that -- because why should we put our dirty laundry out!

Hello dear friends -- that dirty laundry is killing women and girls in India in unimaginable numbers! And I think that women and NGO groups in India really need to break out of this psychological prison of family and community preservation.
