The Tea Party has Risen
By Robin Farrin

Two year ago on inauguration day
I cried tears of joy, joy to finally have a President
that I felt would do this country good.
I felt he was a president who had heart and soul,
who really cared about changing this country
into a place that could finally deserve to be called
The United States of America.

I still have that faith, and Yesterday,
I participated in another election day,
I even voted for a republican to be DA.
I no longer believe that the Democrats have it all figured out,
I don’t believe the Republicans know either.
These two parties appear more like two gangs
trying to prove who’s toughest,
and who’s going to rule the hood.
They seem to be spending way too much energy
into making the other look like fools.

And then there’s the Tea Party,
What in the world are they planning to do to this country?
It feels to me like their brewing up some pretty nasty tea.
This tea isn’t going to be soothing for anyone,
but the power mongers who are driven by fear and insecurity.

I still have faith that Barack Obama
is still in touch with his heart and the needs of the people.
But there is too much fear and hatred being spread by citizens who
are threatened that our president may not be patriotic enough.
Or is it that he isn’t WHITE enough, or Christian enough?

Enough is enough, let’s get over this poisoning dividing games
and focus on what it is that will bring our people together
in some sort of mature harmony
for the sake of our children’s future.

A tea party might be nice on a sunny afternoon,
in my cozy living room.
But that is not what these tea party folks are planning.
There is a meanness brewing that doesn’t feel good.

Our children are already too familiar with bullying.
It’s time we grow up and start getting along
and showing our future generations
how adults are meant to behave.
Once we can master that task,
we can all then sit down to a good cup of tea.
