TANZANIA: I chose to Build Her and others like Her a Safe Space to End Child Early and Forced Marriages

A house structure that needs to be completed before April 2019 to help protect girls in Northern Tanzania especially Longido District from Child Early Forced Marriages (CEFM) and it's harmful effects to help them access quality Education, Protection and Health care.

When I first chose and decided to help end child early and forced marriages in Tanzania especially among girls in Longido District, in Northern Tanzania; it was rather difficult to make the changes immediately but as a resilient educator I knew this will one day be possible.

Based on the values of the Organization that I founded Peace is a very important value and is within a program that I developed in 2008 called Girls Improvement Program In Education Development (GIPiED) and a strategy called ‘Together We Succeed’ a very peaceful, unique, inclusive and participatory process.

I started training girls and women in my community on the need to understand their self worth. This saw girls speak about their problems and came to me to help them get safe shelter/ space. I encouraged them gave them my support and put them back to school and this year one of the girls is completing her college

Although it has not been an easy journey, this year I managed to get a piece of land and on it today is an incomplete building and structure for the same (Safe Shelter) which I hope to complete with availability of resources. I am determined to find a safe space for them for I know this will ensure them get quality education and protection to positively transform their future/ lives.
