TANZANIA: Her Protection was of the Essence when I resolved to give her

Woman takes charcoal bags for sale at a local market This contributes to land degradation

When my dream in Apicultural Entrepreneurship started I didn’t realize that there were so many government rules to conform with. At first it seemed quit fruitful and interesting. There were lots of bees that kept on changing positions on our roof (in the ceiling) to date. The bees had identified themselves it.

With high hopes of becoming an entrepreneur on this line it had its own challenges. I needed to conform to the laws governing this business. This slowed down the pace at which I thought I would make to reach my goal in it. Although I have not given up, I then sort to doing something on the side to help protect the environment.

Many trees at the time were being cut down for fuel by the locals. At some point this was very bad due to the number of trees fell every day. Many donkeys could be seen ferrying plenty of bags full of charcoal to a town center.

All along the government of Tanzania had banned the cutting of trees due to land degradation/ destruction of trees. The government started taking serious measures on those who continued the practice which saw the local leaders become accountable to the same.

This immediately stopped the felling of trees for fuel in the Semi Arid lands. It again, saw many people especially women without any source of income for long. Some of them were depended on it. The fuel is in high demand and might see the same practice taking place secretly at some point. It was then I sort to making alternative energy (Briquettes) for sale at the local market.

I trained one volunteer and today we are selling biomass energy fuel. We expect to produce more when we get a briquette making machine. This will ensure job creation to women who have no other livelihood to depend on.That’s why “Her Protection was of the Essence when I resolved to creating renewable energy.” Providing security to our forests is very important we are the best advocates to protection of “Great Mother Earth”. I am doing it because I love her.  She was created to provide for each one of us everywhere around the world and in “Justice for Climate Change”.
