we can all make a difference... join a cause!

We all have a purpose, something to give and offer. When I think of a community that I belong to and a cause that I can definitely support, many come to mind as many issues are critical nowadays. Due to my travels and search for a larger purpose in the last few years, I have learnt and has opened up my eyes immensely. Right now I’m also leaving Mexico to head back home (Sydney) which not only creates another change in my life but also pushes me to re-focus where I want to invest my energy and push for the causes that I strongly believe in.

One of the areas of change in my community is the immigration process for refugees and asylum seekers. This is an area of difficulty, debate and even shame for Australians! The fact that the Government has shown a lack of humanity in the last few years, poor understanding that we are already dealing with people who are traumatised and persecuted, seeking help, safety or even some empathy.

I understand that Governments have a difficult job and they attempt to protect their citizens safety thus our borders but we do not leave in silos, thereby we need to look beyond our borders. Surely, we need a due process, we need to ensure who are permitted into our nation are ‘worthy’ citizens for Australia to host but where is the efficient process that treats others humanely? Is a ‘trauma free’ process too much to ask for? Detaining people like criminals is unspeakable and a crime in itself!

A change movement can only happen with a strong grassroots movement, where people like you and I stand up for what is right and inform our community and challenge our local politicians what is ought to be done! The importance to be treated how we wish to be treated, to exercise humanity, for a better world that offers and promotes safety and positive peace…

We do not speak up enough and we allow ourselves to be absorbed by our own conformity…I invite everybody who cares enough to say, ‘enough is enough!’ We want a system that is fair, that cares for our homeland but has also the decency and respect for humanity to support effectively and more efficiently the immigration process of asylum seekers and refugees. Inaction can be just as guilty and detrimental as the perpetrators because we know better and choose not to act or give a damn!

Through this blog I want to inform and motivate, challenge and create change, I may not transform the world but create enough consciousness and awareness that we have many people suffering, seeking for a better place. Australia may offer a refuge or may not but one thing it is not acceptable is that we have become a country that re-traumatizes many by continuing to take away their dignity and humanity!

Let us all promote and demand justice and a Movement that empower us and makes our Government accountable!
