On Friday 26th October, Yeshna Dindoyal @_Yeshna conducted a tweetchat on the next steps to be taken post the #MeToo Movement.
The chat began by addressing the #MeToo movement and the core theme of “empowerment through empathy” and whether it served its purpose of empowering people, especially, women to share their stories of survival of sexual abuse and harassment. The #MeToo movement has highlighted the difficulties/cultural blacklash that victims face when they are sharing their stories. The participants were asked to share some examples of the same. Yeshna also asked them their thoughts on whether the #metoo movement could be a catalyst for policy change and reasons for whether they agreed or disagreed. The participants also shared their thoughts on the potential legal reforms that this movement can bring about. We ended the chat by asking them for ways through which one can support a friend/relative who shared their#MeToo story. The support from the participants was heart-warming.
