On 8th February 2019, Ushree @Usriroy conducted a tweetchat on Human Trafficking and Cities.
The chat began by asking the audience members for their thoughts on why victims of their family members do not report incidents of human trafficking. The audience shared their views on the possible reasons for human trafficking in urban areas in modern day and the best possible ways to include anti-human trafficking measures as part of city design policy. Some of the solutions included CCTV monitoring, raids of red-light areas, more patrolling by police etc. The chat then headed towards post-rescue measures and the many challenges- physical, social, mental, emotional that victims of human trafficking face and what sort of policy design at macro and micro level could be helpful to address those challenges. The chat ended by asking the audience for their views on ways of empowering and aiding those grassroots level organizations that already play a crucial role in awareness generation as well as support providers for rescued victims but often lack infrastructure, necessary knowledge, and manpower.
