My experience with Web 2.0

Few years ago , I used to spend too much money on phone calls from Yemen to Canada and USA to greet my family and friends on Eid holidays. At that time, emails were only used by business people and can not transfer emotions and exchange gratitude. However , because of Web 2.0, now I can chat with my friends and cousins in the US, write on their walls , know what is going on with their schools , comment on their photos , watch their recent videos and stand for world issues that concern us and share them with people we know as well. Thus, as Web 2.0 interacts with our lives in all what we do, it has a great impact especially when it comes to women issues around the world.

By Web2.0 , we are able to act against violated practices against women. For example, 2010 women's day , I watched a video done by CARE – Canada campaign about supporting women. It was simply by wearing a string on your finger , you show your support to women. It was a fun idea, yet it carried meaningful attitude towards women that we really care about : http://bit.ly/bOkGCa .

On the other hand, we know about global challenges against women and news through Web 2.0. For instance, through twitter , I could follow Ocativa Nasr and her story with CNN. Moreover, I knew that FGM( Genital Mutilation ) is practiced in UK by some African people and how much girls are suffering on the long term because of this practice: http://bit.ly/9wBXlU . Further, I joined the 16th days of activism against violence against women page on facebook to stand against all kinds of violence that hinder women ability to live a normal happy life : http://bit.ly/9T6NJq

Thus, and as a women activists, I took an initiative to translate twitter guide from English to Arabic for Arabic speaking users so that all the community, including women, will benefit from and use it in their daily life to express their need , voice their rights and eradicate stigmatized issues concerning women : http://bit.ly/acQIUS

With photos , videos and blogs we can rise our voices to say no to violence and to promote women's role in society. Thus, if we unite , as women, with the use of Web 2.0, we will find many doors to go through , many supporters to count on and many obstacles to be vanished in front of our desire to promote women around the world.
