Barriers to change vary according to the context change is personified with. Some barriers are resembled as community acceptance. Moreover, other changes are declined as a result of finance issues and resources. Also, lack of knowledge , phobia, taboo and stigma can play negative role in placing change in the community. Those were some obstacles or barriers that delay change from occurring in the community. I tend to utter delay because nothing can prevent change from occurring.

As change is a technique, it needs tools and means to force it thus, usually we find them in the community. For instance, we can mobilize the community by recruiting community mobilizers towards a vital issue and raise community awareness in certain issues such as HIV AIDS or early marriage. Another tool can be used is setting role models and success stories of true examples to encourage community members to approach the new trend and place it with confidence. Further, we can provide peer education to clarify facts and figures on related issues for the purpose of eradicating taboo and stigma. Those were some examples of how we can get over some challenges in the resistant communities.

One of Web 2.0 advantages is networking, which is resembled by websites such as World Pulse and Taking It Global. We know about Gender based violence and we kind of ignore it in society. But when we see examples from other countries , we tend to speak up and reveal about our experience in violence against women. Thus, we overcome the stigma behind it by revealing such sensitive subject. And when we copy this example to other issues around the world, we can see how many petitions have been signed , how many campaigns are successful ,and how many people follow causes and believe in them, and finally reach what they have believed in. All in all , online communities provide the support you need with only one single click and strong desire to change. So what are you waiting for? Get the help you need, join us and make the right click to change !

Thank you Sahar, this is a great piece. That is what is amazing about World Pulse, no subject is taboo. We can inspire each other to action, as you have done with this essay. And, we can learn new ways of doing so..great job!

Hi Sahar

You have identified the obstacles to change really well and the point I particularly liked was that you recognised obstacles as 'delaying' the inevitable. That change cannot be prevented. I wish you well in inspiring others to overcome the obstacles change, so that it might happen soon

Sahar, sometimes we have barriers that are created amongst ourselves a and amonst our own people and we don't know why. But, yes, as you have stated, we do need role models. You are a role model. Yes we need community leaders. You are a community leader. The challenge is to encourage others to know that it starts with them also. You have already started your journey by stepping out and making a change. I applaud you for that. Stay encouraged and determined to make things happen.

Have continued peace.

Great post, sahar! I like that you have thought about the things that need to be done to bring about change, because it obviously does not happen on its own. I can't wait to hear about what you plan to do in your community to bring these changes about. I look forward to reading more...

Dear Tina , Shawanna and jenchapin

I bow in respect to your words that are really encouraging and bright. As Ghandi said “We must become the change we want to see.” Thus , we should start with ourselves. In regards of role models, we need them so that we do not start from the scratch , but we benefit from their stories and experience and save time and effort.
