Munting Maya

This is an original musical play that I have presented three years ago. October 13 was the play date. This was my recital thesis for my Bachelor of Music, Music Education with Piano Principal at St. Scholastica's College, Manila where I also presented there in our Little Theater.

This story is a somewhat happened into my life especially after I was in my near death experience and with some mistakes in my life. I am really happy that I made this musical play and staged it. Remembering my young grade school students at that time. Happy of being a teacher with such fulfillment.

The story goes where the mother Maya (a small bird) sings a lullaby to her Munting Maya (a young bird). In the early morning where the mother Maya looks for food, the Munting Maya wakes up and sings a morning greeting in the surroundings. The mother Maya came and looks for her young bird, however, the bird plays hide-and-seek where it was discovered. Telling it that all in treasures of the world is not compared to Munting Maya. It wants to be free to fly and discover the world.

Munting Maya run away from home and the mother Maya when to look for her young. It went to a wedding festival of the indigenous Ifugao people. The bride saw the beautiful bird and requested to her husband to catch it as a wedding gift. The husband agreed and catches the Munting Maya. Realizing the made of running away from home and remembering the words of its mother Maya. It wants to escape from its cage, thus, a prayer from Bathala (a Supreme Being) for its release.

Bathala heard the prayer and seeing the remorse Munting Maya. Alas, there was no cage. Suddenly, a voice of the mother Maya where Munting Maya heard and follow the voice. In a blink of an eye Munting Maya went back to its flock of birds. They informed it that mother Maya when to search for her young that ran away. They consoled it upon the return of mother Maya.

A familiar lullaby from mother Maya that awakens Munting Maya. It was all a dream and Munting Maya is so happy that mother Maya is there to love and protect it. Thus, in the end, they sang the morning greeting as a finale.

To my friends, classmates and mentors, thank you very much upon seeing my original musical play back then. Three years has been past. The memories of such joy that you have given me will forever stay into my heart.

See you in my next adventure.
