Wonders I experienced through Web 2.0

I always longed to be heard, to be distinct. I wanted to fly, without wings. When I was young, I thought only bright girls and boys could make it and they alone were the heir to this privilege. All the others were non-existent. I was an average, a mediocre in everything as if there was a limit set for me already. It was paralyzing and I felt chocked at times. I didn’t exist. The first time I used Web 2.0, I never thought it had life changing potential and could empower a person in ways not known to me before. I came to know about its incredible powers when it gave me a sense of empowerment, a new world very different than where I always lived. I learnt to speak for myself and I got my voice heard. That was soul-enriching and that was how I learnt to be ME. For the first time, I realized anyone can exist and anyone can fly. What was non-existent was the idea that you can’t and you shouldn’t do!

For me, it has been a tool of empowerment in that I could now make sense of who I am and what I can do. I found the whole world at the tip of my finger just few inches far from my bed locked up in my computer as if by some divine purpose designed just for me. I was never fed up reveling in this new found liberty. I could now take a tour to African Sahara or Syria at the comfort of my bed or write for hours about the social issues of Nepal and still listen to the issues all over the world. In a way it is both fun and fulfilling to share your voice, ideas and listen to other’s tales and staying connected to people globally. It has as if set me free to be myself, to explore an absolutely different part of me which I wasn’t aware of before. With its variety of sophisticated digital platforms, Web 2.0 has become an extremely important facet of everyday life that we can’t imagine our lives apart from it.

This technical know-how and innovation has a lot to do with the improvements of people’s skills and the way they could explore their innate potentialities. Especially women can harness the best possible opportunities from this technology and can hone their ideas. It has not only helped them in academics but also in day to day improvements of their skills and knowledge in various avenues such as business, politics, media and development as well as establishing them as some of the greatest heroes of their society as some brave women did in Kongo and still doing. Through the Web 2.0, it has been much easier for the women all over the world to get connected, share experiences, listen to each other and be inspired for the change.
