Just a click away

As a young women living in the era of information and technology, I find it really interesting and empowering to be able to find, share and rate any piece of information just a click away. I am a fresh graduate with a lot in mind; higher education, opportunities, career options and much more. Therefore, I think what excites me the most is how the web 2.0 tools are utilized in education-oriented websites that offers a lot of online and offline courses and educational material.

Knowledge is a strong weapon that enables women around the world to have better chances at work and develop their skills to make a living and provide for themselves and their families. The up-to-date, interactive educational web 2.0 sites provide basic and / or advanced courses and training which can be utilized by women all over the world to gain practical knowledge that helps building their careers.

Moreover, social media allows women to connect, share and make friends with other women who have common interests, hopes or challenges which makes women feel heard and appreciated. Actual help is also provided for women since it’s not unusual to find another woman in the same country, or even neighborhood, which has the same challenge or can offer help and resources.

Because of its enormous tools, I believe the web 2.0 can participate in women empowerment movement greatly. Sharing stories, connecting with others, seeking help and advice is only a small part of what women can do using web 2.0. Building networks across continents will help empower women by being heard and get the help they need, and women leaders can offer to the less fortunate in developing countries real aid.

As for myself, I find the web 2.0 tools empowering for me is several ways. I can enjoy chatting with my friends all over the world and share my stories and interests, find useful tags for websites that cover some of my many interests as well as having my voice heard by those who can make a difference in the world. Added to that, I think educational websites are also a great blessing since I can gain the knowledge and skills that I need easily and for free.
