It is just the beginning

Here I stand at the finish line of my Voices of Our Future journey. Behind me I see a trail of amazing rewarding yet challenging moments. Long grueling nights committed to researching and re-writing assignments. Judiciously probing into issues for knowledge, understanding, and with the hopes of capturing the truth that will enlighten others about what is going on in my community. At times, I had to face some of my own history and examine incidents with a fresh observer’s eyes, dissecting events in my past that have directed my life’s course.

As I stand at this juncture, I feel empowered and focused. I know that the next steps I take will be with that much more certainty and boldness. I see clearly the path before me and I am excited at the thought of unchartered territories, lives of women and girls that will inspire and convict me to give all that I am...

Who would have thought that simply writing assignment pieces could change a person thus? The modules went beyond focusing on technical skills building as a citizen journalist. The assignments challenged me to always ask two things: 1) Why? And 2) What can or is being done? ...Now in all I do, I hear the voices of Marcie and Tara urging me on, re-assuring me that my voice is valid, necessary, and important. The voices of fellow VOF sisters spoke truth from all areas of the globe from Nepal to Somalia, Colombia, and South Africa. Your pieces reminding me that we each have a responsibility to our communities and can effect change through our powerful presentation of the truth. Keep sharing and keep soaring!
