AN IGNORED MENACE

AN IGNORED MENACE.

We all do love our mothers and would do anything for them. So do they, take an example of a chameleon which has to die in order for its offspring to get life. Our mothers are the only people who can stand any kind of pain for us, childbirth itself is a task, but you, neither I was aborted. What other demonstration of love are we looking for??

In Kenya’s, Kajiado county, Kinyewa location, the process of childbirth is now fatal, what with the lack of health centers for maternal health care and if present, they are hundreds of kilometers away, there is too much ignorance too, cultural influence worsens it. In a period of 4 months, there have been 16 maternal deaths at child birth in one location of less than 500 people. Access to healthcare is a basic human right which they do not have, poverty levels are very high
among the Maasai due to consistent droughts where they lose their source of livelihood.
A period of happiness has now become a period of sorrow. of the 16 deaths, only five of their babies survived. that accounts for 27 lives lost in 4 months. a future great man, great woman has been lost, and these five babies will not understand how it feels like to have a mother. Patinaai Osim, an NGO working in the area main objective is to sensitize these people on the importance of giving birth in hospital, educating them on nutrition and promoting good sanitation issues which are non existing in the area. Our vision is to see Maasai women receive the same level of care received by other women in other parts of the world. Because of our numbers we have been ignored for too long and as an educated Maasai woman, it is my obligation to speak about the plight of these women.

We are now raising funds to help us get a mobile clinic that will take healthcare closer to the people.
Our joy is to see a mother look into its baby’s eyes, to see a mother and child bond, to let a mother
watch her baby grow up and mature. To see another one of the human race get into the race we all are in and experiencing the love and affection that we all are familiar with.

Let us all join our hands as women and see other women like us experience the fruits of having carried a pregnancy for nine months.
