Women's Peace and Security: Peacekeeping
Nov 11, 2018
Story
In the past week Unaisi Vuniwaqa of Fiji demonstrated how women lead in progressing commitments to the women, peace and security agenda in particular representation targets in peacekeeping.
A key priority that was discussed during a Multi-stakeholder Forum ahead of the 1325+18 Open Debate was an opportunity to hifhhighl the vital need to invest in more women in policing initiatives including in Peacekeeping deployments.
This is one way to also invest in women's notions of security not just in peacekeeping operations but 'peace support' 'infrastructures for peace' in their communities.
One example is Rwanda, the top female police contributor to UN peace operations. This is consistent with Rwanda’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment across all sectors:https://t.co/LKU6SOWbyZ
