Introducing myself and my journal: extreme empowerment

About Me:
hi. i am shazia - head of advocacy at the economic empowerment of the poorest, also known as, shiree. shiree is the bangla word for steps. we try to help extremely poor people get onto the economic ladder by giving them a boost up from the vicious pit of extreme poverty through the transfer of an asset or some marketable skills.

shiree is a livelihoods programme that works with 300,000 families. the families are selected based on a set of criteria that indicates their extreme poverty. (basically - landless, assetless, jobless.) these families are marginalised, vulnerable, and most often, female-headed. in bangladesh, there are 6 million such families, so though we work with a huge number of people (1 million!) there are still many more left to help (24 million more!) check us out: www.shiree.org (we are a partnership between three governments: bangladesh, uk and swiss.)

as head of advocacy, i try to lobby for support to scale up the work shiree is doing. the government of bangladesh has committed to eradicate extreme poverty and i hope we can do it! to successfully eradicate extreme poverty, to leave no one behind, technology - the web - will have to play a big role!!!!

if you have any ideas - i would love to hear them!
