Let's have a conversation!

Let’s have a conversation
about when you din’ have to walk with me coz of
how I dressed
about when you din’ have to spend time with me
coz of
my social status
about when you din’ have to talk to me coz of
my speech defection
but because when I walked, talked, dressed I
exuded the image and the presence of our
Heavenly Father.

Let’s have a conversation
about when I din’ have to walk around
looking to my left
looking to my right
with my sixth sense on alert
just in case someone tried to jump me
about when I din’ have to switch on the radio or
T.v.
and the first thing I hear and see is
someone has been raped, murdered
or this number of people have died
after a grisly road accident that was caused
by drunk or careless driving
about when I could sweat, toil for my
daily bread and not rob someone at gun-point.

Let’s have a conversation
about when religion had not taken over the
relationship with God and man
and friendships were made and others broken
on the basis of one’s denomination
about when we looked beyond one’s taboos,
cultural and tribal differences
and saw the human being within.

Let’s have a conversation
about when loving
was real and not fake
about when smiling at someone
was from the heart rather than
forced and false
about when doing what’s right wasn’t a
NEED but a WANT
about when the words ‘I LOVE YOU’
were rich with meaning.
