Introducing myself and my journal: Be Here Now

About Me:
I have been trying to change the world toward good since my teen years...a journey now of more than 40 years! SOme days I feel proud of the work done, especially on women's rights and leadership both in the US and in throughout the world. When I think about my small part in the huge drama of women's lives and the gains and changes we have made, I see the glass as half full. On other days, I see the realities of poverty, illiteracy, lack of women's political representation, etc. and I can see the glass as half-full!
Most days I am an optimist! After leading public policy and women's rights efforts I broadened my work to a human rights/human security perspective. I have worked mostly in the US but also in, with and for Argentina; the countries of the former Yugoslavia; Southern African countries. After working as a Program Officer for the Kellogg Foundation I created a strategy/consulting business to help foundations, individual philanthropists/donors and progressive nonprofit organizations to set bold paths for sustainable social change.
I understand how to build organizations that are well-suited for 21st century activism--strong, shared, open networks that engage all available talent for the work we need to do.

My Passions:
My work, especially the relationships; my family and friends; the great cities I have lived-in, worked-in and love; cooking, the arts...guess I'm just a passionate person!

My Challenges:
Never enough time for all that seems important! Sometimes being a small business owner and a mostly solo consultant can feel lonely or insignificant.

My Vision for the Future:
More and better use of technology among women so that we can find each other, share ideas, and understand our common and diverse histories and experiences.

My Areas of Expertise:
Building social change organizations; creation of transformational peer learning experiences.
