Introducing myself and my journal: The Funny Feminist

About Me:
Personally, I'm a 27 year old walking contradiction who finds it difficult to fit into a box or stereotype. I'm a whole lotta funny with a heaping side of grit. I don't like physical violence or hateful arguments, but I love the physicality of American football. I consistently wear floral prints and bright colors and have the mouth of a drunken sailor. I'm a pescatarian which is a wannabe vegetarian. I secretly wish having a themed wedding and dressing up in costume became not only an American wedding tradition, but a global wedding tradition. I would spend my days thinking up and creating elaborate costumes and attending weddings around the world. Most importantly, as an American woman and modern-day feminist, I have never been disrespected or made to feel I should doubt my capabilities as a leader, because I have never let anyone do so.

Professionally, I'm a 27 year old graduate student studying for her Master's in International Peace & Conflict Resolution. I am currently in the second year of my program studying and interning abroad. For four months I am in Kampala, Uganda studying at Makerere University in their Women and Gender Studies program, followed by three months in Sierra Leone interning with the non-profit, Heifer International.

Both personally and professionally, I believe in promoting and empowering women to become the leaders and decision-makers of tomorrow. Should we do this through education, economic empowerment, domestic violence training? The answer is all of them, but I am personally vested in the economic empowerment sector. I believe economic independence allows women to support themselves and their families, and empowers women to not only make decisions relating to finances but with their own bodies too.

I invite you through my journal to openly and candidly discuss the issues of today's women and their role as emerging leaders. My voice often carries a tone of sarcasm and a whole lotta humor. I'm blunt and to the point because I hate to confuse and mince words. I look forward to sharing my thoughts and experiences with you as well as hearing about yours.
