Pig Farming through Loan support- a case study of Paishagora No-1, Mahila Swanirbhar Dal, Purulia, West Bengal, India



 



 



Paishagora No-I Mahila Swanirbhar dal ( Women Self Help Group) headed by Smt. Sakuntala Murmu w/o Mohan Chandra Murmu of Paisagora village of Manbazar I block of Purulia district, West Bengal, India. Smt. Sakuntala Murmu and other SHG members received a loan of Rs 28000.00( USD.395) from Pairachali Watershed Committee ( Micro Watershed  project, Manbazar I block) funded by NABARD, RO, Kolkata. The Watershed Committee and the Self Help Group were formed and strengthened under the guidance of Gramin Vikas Trust (GVT) - a National level Development Organization, working in 13 States in India. They (the SHG) jointly started the Pig farming activity. Now they have total 15 nos. of Pigs with a present market value amounting of Rs 75000.00 to Rs.85000.00 (USD.1198). At present they sold 12 nos of Pig amounted Rs.75000.00 and loan recovery is more than 75% & the profit was distributed among the members. They also want to expand Pig farming project in view of receiving   more remunerative income through this gainful livelihood opportunity. From this activity they expect more than Rs.2500-Rs.3000 thousand rupees (43 USD)  per members as supplementary income in every month.
