I overcame my fears through the use of social media

I overcame my fears through the use                of the social media.

Life as a student has been the most intriguing thing for me. With its good times, rough times, though times, days of thunder and tornados, trial and horrible moments, I bravely overcame them.

When I got to my final year of my university study, as it is a tradition, presentations concerning topics on agriculture or related topics were often exposed to course mates in order to earn a grade in a course titled Seminar.

Choosing a topic was a hard one to do. Secondly, mounting a professional power point presentation was another call for attention, time and patience. Thirdly, presenting my piece of research work to my peers and Jury members was a call for panic.

Being my first time to prepare for such a task, a bit of online work had to be done. After choosing a suitable topic which kept me wondering if it would be accepted by jury members, i pulled an all nighter to finish mounting my research work.

Days and night filled with panic passed and the deal day finally arrived. It was my turn at last to present after seeing my peers fabulously presenting their work and I could hear and see the jury approving their presentation.

Fear gripped me and it was evident on the way I sluggishly moved ahead to present. I had never felt this way. My feet suddenly became heavy to carry my body as panic covered my entity. The president of Jury, honorable members of jury…….. I started with a heavy voice and as I kept talking, I unconsciously moved to preceding slides against my wish because I had an ant in my pant. But a few minutes later, I contained my fears and told myself that I COULD DO IT. That I can present better than my peers and that my topic of presentation shall be considered.

Lo and behold. After a successful presentation, I was graded second in class and my professionalism, style and manner of presentation worn the admiration of all my peers and jury members who applauded my exceptional power point. Till date, my peers still use it as a template for their personal purposes.

Today I am glad to say the social media and the internet has profoundly changed my life. I happen to have lived with Madam Sophie, a lady of substance and an encourager from whom I learnt a lot of professional skills and how important a woman is to her surroundings. I didn’t know I had something in me until that day. Her constant push on me to explore the internet and social media landed me on checking out how to make a public presentation, how to mount a professional power point and body language when offering a talk. Indeed the benefits were obvious as I was satisfied with my results from my presentation.

I have not stopped learning more skills on how to be a good presenter from my favorite YouTube and Google because they provide me with the necessary tools to bit out fear to approach, progress and complexes.

I am proud to say that I have overcome fear and I am among those who stand for positive change through the use of social media.
