BEAUTY OF WOMEN NETWORKING AND THE MEDIA

My daughter who is a charity worker in Europe linked me to Pulse Wire after I told her that my dream is to publicize my club’s project to all women and girls in the world and to also write about IT literacy.

Today, my work for the day is not complete if I have not read the news and information on World Pulse website. Assessing the site has thought me how to develop a project manual or toolkit, which I have passed on to my club members and we have designed the toolkit for our Child Sex Abuse project.

In 2003, i joined an NGO known as Business and Professional Women (BPW) Nigeria-Lagos club, within one year I became the Secretary of the Club and acted in this capacity for about three years and then became the President of BPW-Lagos Club in October, 2011. BPW- Lagos Club is a state club of BPW- Nigeria (bpwnigeria.org) an affiliate of BPW –International (bpw-international.org.)

I got to know about BPW on the Television, when one of the BPW Nigeria Workshop was advertised. The Workshop was on Women Empowerment and sponsored by Fiendish Newman, an International Organization. At this workshop I met a lot of older and younger women and these women are still my friends today.
Today, I have many friends at every corner of my country that I met during our Conferences in Nigeria. My attendance of BPW International Conferences in Ghana, Benin, New-York, Switzerland and Helsinki has also enhanced my friendship with people of other Nations.

My engagement in networking with BPW women has made me to be confident and I have learnt how to react to issues and make constructive thought followed by actions in my daily responsibilities as well as on national duties.

Project Objectives :
Teaching Sex Education early to Primary and Secondary school students to reduce the incidence of child sexual abuse in the community. There has been an observed increase in the sexual molestation of young children especially the girl child by people who are primarily relatives (uncles, cousins, etc.) and care givers (drivers, houseboys, gatemen, stewards, etc.). These are people either put in the home or employed by the parents of these girls and thus these girls are supposed to trust them. These people take advantage of this trust and molest these girls thereby causing untold damage to them physically, mentally and emotionally not to mention the attendant health risks. This programme is to equip the participants with the necessary skills to reject and expose such inordinate advances without fear of victimization. They will also be taught to boldly seek help should they ever fall victim of such evil. The participants will also be taught how to educate their peers on the same topic.

We have started the Child Sex Abuse Project with two secondary schools in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, Lagos, Nigeria and before the programme ended some Principals from other schools want us to repeat the programme in their schools. We hope do the same in the remaining LGA in Lagos State before the year runs out .
