Giving Voice to Those Who Have Yet to Find Their Voice

As the feminists, we urge that “Women aren’t the problem but the solution.” However, we are still considered to be the problems and are neglected in most parts of the world, no matter whether we are in developed or in the third world countries.

Despite the fact that most of the people from my community believe that investing in educating for girls is worthless as they are supposed to go to others home after they get married, fortunately, I got chance to go school and continue my studies. However, I had to undergo many hardships to attend meetings and participate in various programs that were underway in the area, because my parents thought that it would distort my minds from my studies and the community itself would not receive me and my family positively for such activities.

Since then, I always wondered how we can empower women while all of them are discriminated. Then, I realized that it is impossible to empower me and my sisters without the financial supports, so ignoring the potential negative reaction from my community, I establish a microcredit (which still run) to gather women together in those area and make them economically independent. Many women have been benefiting economically and socially from the microfinance, and more interestingly, the women have been embolden and empowered with the positive attitude towards what women can do. I believe that until and unless women are economically strong, they will not be empowered.

Two years ago, I was in a village in Nepal, where women are largely deprived of education, proper health facilities and their basic rights. I was so much touched by their situation and decided to work for such community and make their voice heard, but, I could not find any means to speak out for the need of positive change of my community.

However, on March 2009, World Pulse that works to create equal visibility for ignored women in an international media has provided me a vivid platform to represent the ignored and unheard voices of minority group and under privileged women of such community. After joining the pulse wire, the motto: “No one speaks for me, I speak for myself”, has tremendously inspired me to take my leadership skill to the next level. I also got the opportunity to represent my country and speak out for the rights of women’s journalist at One Young World Summit in London.
I have been also selected from the International Women’s Health Coalition 2010 Young Visionaries Contest grant to do a free health clinic and drama in Nepal. Additionally, as an IT supervisor at Asian University for Women, I have worked with eighty-five IT assistants from nine different countries including Nepal which have developed my ability to work in Multi-cultural environment.

Considering my previous activities, I am keen interested to work for those who desperately are in need of other’s help. I am also inspired by the activities and contributions that World Pulse is making all across the globe for the positive and sustainable change for women; hence, I firmly believe that I cannot think of any other organization than World Pulse to work with.

Moreover, I am already an active member of Pulse Wire and am very much passionate to work and represent the voices of women from my community. I also have been extremely motivated to lead the World Pulse community to reach consensus on its top issues and be consistent with the motto to work with World Pulse if I am provided with the opportunity.

My aim is to work together with the government, non-profit organizations and young people who strive to address the causes of poverty and inequality. I also want to run an organization with the objectives of protecting and promoting the human rights and social justices to empower minority and marginalized groups; thus acquiring the board skill will also help me to meet my future goal as well as World Pulse. But, one needs her/his considerable skill and knowledge to work for these issues, which, I believe, the executive board skill job offered in World Pulse can provide me with. Thus, I strongly believe myself as a strong candidate for this position.
