Nepal's Missed a Powerful Woman Leader



Former Deputy Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) leader Sailaja Acharya was in treatment of respiratory and pneumonia from a long time had pass away on Thursday, 4.25 am while undergoing treatment in Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu. Acharya was born in 2001 B.S. in Biratnagar and began her political career as a student.



She was the first women who showed off the black flag to late king Mahendra against his absolute rule and was send to prison for three and a half year in 2017 B.S. She was a woman who made a remarkable contribution to reinstate democracy in the country.



Acharya was an active leader from Nepali Congress in 2048 B.S., so she was elected for the parliament from area number 5. Later she became the first women Agriculture Minister, Minister for Water Resources (2053 B.S.) and Agriculture Minister (1990) and raise her voice t mentioning that there was corruption in her own parliament. After Jana Andolan II and thereafter she was assigned for the ambassador for India from Nepal, but she was sick from the past two years and was hospitalized from last year.



She was taken to India and later to Thailand for her treatment. Some months ago, Acharya was doing rest in her own house and was taken to the hospital after she complained about the respiratory problems. According to the US Nepali news, she was given a medicine to stop her voice which was told after Acharya death from her relatives which can be a reason.



Meanwhile, the emergency meeting of NC central committee concluded that hers death has caused a great loss to the party and decided to close down party offices for three days yesterday.
