Introducing myself and my journal: Taking Root

About Me:
I am coordinating the exciting project of producing multi-language DVDs the inspiring documentary 'Taking Root: the Vision of Wangari Maathai' and getting them out to grassroots women's and environmental activists all over the world.

'Taking Root' is the only full-length documentary that tells the story of the life and work of Nobel Peace prize winner Wangari Maathai. She empowered village women to meet multiple challenges, initially organizing local tree planting and connecting that to vital issues of natural resources and traditional understandings of nature as sacred, food security, community well-being and protection of the commons, human rights, ending corruption, participatory democracy, peace and more.

Through a grant, we have produced a DVD with Spanish, Portuguese, and Haitian soundtracks, plus the original English. The next DVD, coming out in early December 2012 features recordings in Arabic, French, and Kiswahili. We will produce a DVD with Chinese, Russian, and Indonesian soundtracks in early 2013. All of these are available without cost to groups wanting to inspire community activism in their own countries.
