Celebrating #YouthDay in Canada

As #Youthday approached I had landed from a long Ferry ride for the chance to visit women working in Women's Centres in Newfoundland, an island that isthe most eastern part of Canada. There I met women warmly welcoming me into the women's centres, busy offering support to women in their communities. In the capital city of St John's my visit coincided with their women's festival, Femfest, and also with #YouthDay. I decided to celebrate by interviewing a number of young women, 3 in the Gander Women's Centre who were documenting the history of the women's movement in Newfoundland, creating events for the Centre, and studying and putting into place the ability to do the financial part of running a women's centre, the others at Femfest. At Femfest, a number of brilliant young leaders were presenting at the festival, and helping with all that needed doing to run it smoothly. All were very glad to learn about World Pulse and readily offered to be interviewed on their work, what they see as important in our direction, and wanted to send a big hello out to the global sisterhood. Here are a few photos. Conversations and presentations included safety on college campuses, the importance of getting out of violent relationships, the importance of finding the women's centres, the importance of and how to access media, the importance of working together inclusively and intersectionally. It was so energizing and hopeful to meet these strong sisters and experiencethem in action together.
