Introducing myself and my journal: Story of my life

About Me:
Expanding communication networks can improve the lives of children in rural areas
My father always told me that education is the key to success. Now that I am grown up I realize that what my father told me is true especially for children who grow up in the poor and remote areas of the country.
Children in remote, poor and marginalised districts of Zimbabwe have to work extra hard to overcome challenges that range from distant and poorly equipped schools, unqualified teachers, a lot of domestic commitments and unavailability of information.
Growing up in a family of three, two girls and one boy, the first lesson I observed in the community is that money makes things to happen. With money, one can have as many friends as one likes. Those who are very poor struggle to make friends and the rich and young have the power to push around even the oldest people in the community.
I am one of the people who grew up in a poor environment and I had very few friends. It was miserable having to study alone, play alone and walk to school alone. Some children would give me nicknames and I felt hurt. This pushed me to work really hard at school so that I could reach my goal of starting my own business. I realize that with my own business, people can respect me and start to treat me as an important member of the community.
Time moves slowly when you are confined to poverty. After years of academic studies, I wrote my Ordinary Level examinations and I was free at last to explore new initiatives. My father has a young brother in Bulawayo. This became my first port of call after my studies. This uncle of mine is a businessman and the opportunity to live with his family was very inspiring.
My uncle is a respected man and soon after joining his family, I started meeting new friends and I realized that there was more to life than just spending time scrapping around for food. It was also through these friends that I learned about the Creative Centre for Communication and development. Since taking part in CCCD programmes, I have learned a lot especially about information and communication technologies. I have opened an e-mail account and a Facebook account. I am now able to communicate with some relatives in the diaspora. I can also communicate with my sisters in Harare. Staying connected to relatives and friends makes life easy as one can get to hear about employment opportunities.
I hope that our government should implement developmental programmes in the rural communities so that children don’t grow up in poverty. I also want to encourage children in rural areas to study hard and achieve better grades at school to that they go to institutions of higher education where they can get competitive professional qualifications.
Above all I wish that the government would expand communication networks to rural areas so that people in rural areas keep contacts with their friends and relatives in urban areas.

I was born on the ninth of October 1992 in Gokwe south where most member of my father’s family based there, there only three member of my family, my sister fist born, my brother second born and l the last born from both my father and mother .
As l grow l did not have much friends it hates me so much until when l came to realize that money was money is man’s best friend only people can have many friends as they want l started to care less and live my life most children started calling me names some malambane and some misery it l felt more lonely but l could not care much all I could think of was my studies school and those who love me like my father always says ‘education is key to success’.
As time goes on l started seeing my name Tamary as a nickname when l discover the meaning tapera that is when l told myself that when l grow up l will change my name and start my own business so people will respect me like it was already to me clear that even a 10 year old boy can put rules as long as he got money in hands l then moved from Gokwe to Bulawayo and stayed there with my father’s younger brother l enjoyed staying with him because l got so many friend the loneliness was out of my life and then life was beginning to be more and more interesting because my uncle was a business men so when it comes to income l had no problem from there l then knew that no one would dare disrespect me or threaten me in terms of poverty. Now here l am happy with my computer lesson life is good with ups and downs the excitement has just began.
