Combating Talibanization in Pakistan

Efforts being made to raise awareness and combat the rise of Talibanization within Pakistan. If you guys know of any more initiatives or have any ideas as to what we should do as a nation, please pitch in and discuss it with others. This is not the time to sit back and watch things unravel.

  • Saving the education of girl's in Pakistan's Swat Valley



Help me run a one month retreat for girls from Swat in Islamabad this July, to work towards reclaiming the rights of Girls in Swat Valley.



Over 200 girls schools have been detroyed in Swat Valley. Public flogging and executions are now common in Swat. Girls in Swat have been terrorised, repressed, humilitated, and terrified. The girls in Swat valley need us to help them help themselves.



You can help, and here's your chance.



In July 2009, 20 young educated girls from Swat Valley, including the heroic young writer of BBC's "Diary of a Pakistani School Girl", and the brave young Malala from NY Time's "Class Dismissed in Swat Valley" will attend a one-month long retreat in Islamabad.



The purpose of the retreat is:




  1. To help these girls rejuvenate from the violence and horror they have been subjected to


  2. To show these girls what is possible for them to achieve, and what they have rights to as citizens of Pakistan, and as human beings.


  3. To empower these girls, physically, emotionally, and educationally


  4. To allow these girls to present their stories to the world.


  5. To teach these girls to use internet blogs, cameras, and other technology to document the horrors in Swat


  6. To prepare these girls as ambassadors for larger outreach programs in the future




But to achieve any of these goals, I NEED YOU TO HELP.



Here's how you can help:




  • Meet these girls and hearing their stories. Schedule an ice-cream trip for them, take them out, show they Islamabad, and find out FOR YOURSELF, what is really going on in Swat. You can finally hear the real stories..


  • Offer to teach a skill to these girls in the form of a workshop. I need people to teach a) writing work-shops b) blogging and internet technology c) health d) sport e) dance f) music g) camera and film-making among others. Msg me what you think you can teach, and we can carve out a syllabus.


  • Donate and urge others to donate. Please, anything from the equivalent to what you put in a gumball machine, to what you feel you can afford to contribute. I need donations for food, transportation, entertainment, and for purchasing cameras to give to these girls so that they can document the situation around them in Swat. I will personally email you with updates of what your money was used to do, even if you donate a few coins.




I need all of you to do this together. Please, HELP RECLAIM THE RIGHTS OF GIRLS IN SWAT.
