GENDER BASED VIOLENCE : HELPLESS AND HOPELESS GIRL CHILD

Having worked as a Volunteer in my poor Community, serving all regardless of their ethnic background i.e the Elderly, the Persons with Special needs (Disabled) , the Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC), Youth, Gender Based Violence Cases (GBV) cases.

These cases are very common in my Community. Most of them are contributed by Poverty.

On Sunday the 7th of August, 2016 while I was coming out of Church Holy Mass Catholic at 11.00 am, I was called by the Police Officer on duty.

A couple had just arrived with a girl. They narrated where and how they have landed in that Administration Office. (AP)

They found the girl about a Kilometre away from the APs. Office. They spotted her and she looked confused and miserable carrying a big travelling bag by the side of the road. They decided to approach her, she could not talk at first, she then said she wanted to go home.

So the Couple decided to bring her to the APs Adminitration Office.

The Couple left the girl, the Police requested me to handle that case, because nobody could hear what she was saying. I requested her to speak out, so that we will be able to help her, She informed us that she is from Uganda.

I took her to my house and we took tea, later I prepared Lunch we ate. I gave her a book requested her to write down and explain to me her story.

In her real life story she wrote and requested the Authority concerned since she has lived with the step mother who mistreats her and the Father is not concerned. She would like to go back to Uganda to live with her Grandmother. We stayed at home untill 4.00pm.

I decided to escort her to a CHILD PROTECTION UNIT situated in a POLICE station. They usually pays fare to her home Country after they listen to her story or either they contact their relatives.

The letter she wrote I scanned, without her name and those of their relatives for security.

Imagine at that tender age and all the problems she is going through, I observed and I realized she is pregnant. Also the Officer I left her within the Child protection noticed and asked her but she refused

The following day, I went to check on her Child Protection Unit she was alright and they were preparing her.

According to her she could not continue with her education she was in a Boarding School due to those Satanic powers. she could not sleep at nntight, they used to haunt her. Her life now will be unbearable.

Attached herewith, please find the letter I asked her to write down because we could not hear what she was telling us. She was talking softly and also find her photo ( while writing down in my house).
