Family fears for life of activist they say has been kidnapped by Sri Lankan 'secret police'

Champa Somaratna said she holds grave fears for her husband, Premakumar Gunaratnam, 42, who has been missing since late last week from the Kiribathigodaj region, north of Colombo.

Dr Somaratna said her husband, who is a political activist with the People's Struggle Movement in Sri Lanka, was taken early in the morning by “25 armed people” who had warned neighbours in the area to “close all their windows and doors and turn off their lights”.

She said the Sri Lankan government and its “secret police” were behind his abduction.
