Tamenglong Orange Festival: Oranges, Amur Falcon, tribal communities of Manipur and Biodiversity Heritage
Tamenglong nature's delight (1/2)

I am an alumni of the learning institution that World Pulse is.

I learnt digital media, using digital tools to lead my own digital action campaigns, writing effectively, opeds, elevator pitch, networking, and encouraging women and others to bring out the best version in each one of us.

I learnt the power of building bridges and connections online and offline.

I learnt to be the working model of all these tools.

For the first time, I am going to put to practice ALL of what World Pulse has trained me on over the years spanning almost a decade , to cover an annual farming festival called 'Tamenglong Orange Festival' in one of the most remote and isolate regions in the northeast region of India, Tamenglong district in Manipur.

I want to direct global and national attention to Tamenglong for its oranges, one of the oldest varieties in the world called by the name 'Orange Mandarin', the orange growers, the Amur Falcons which migrate from Siberia and rest in Tamenglong every winters before flying away to East Africa, the rock music talent, the exquisite local cuisine and the unique tribal communities of Rongmei Naga, Zeme Naga, Liagmai Naga tribes of Manipur that live here.

I will use writing( in newspapers), radio broadcasting( in community radio stations in India), social media coverage and other video tools I learnt from World Pulse.

I am alone on this mission but I feel prepared.

I have several note pads, pens and markers, card reader for my camera, DSLR Nikon camera, tripod, dictaphone sound recorder, power bank, lapel mike, hard disk, flash drives, laptop, power bank and a plan.

I will give extensive media coverage to Tamenglong Orange Festival beginning from first week of December 2018.

What will be unique is a woman's perspective in community reporting.

There will be many reporters and media persons there I know but very few woman journalists, if any. I am very happy, excited and confident and I know what all I have to do.

Thank you World Pulse for training me.

Dear Arrey-Echi,

Thanks a lot for the encouragement sister. We are so accustomed to hearing and reading a man's perspective while a man values different things and sees things differently. We then begin to believe that's all there is to the world. A woman's perspective opens doors to other possibilities.

Much love

Dear Jill,
I have many people in Tamenglong who are very supportive and care. I know challenges are easily overcome when you are surrounded by people who support you just like how it is in World Pulse. In fact these few days I am still in Bangalore before my travel are rather tough on me because I find I just want to go. Thanks for your interest in this region.

Prayers and hugs,
Urmila Chanam,
