Mideast Youth

Last weekend at a powerful international workshop about the Arab Spring at my school, I not only listened to some incredible scholars and people who experienced the violence discuss what is going on in our world and the phenomenon of revolutions which has been labeled the "Arab Spring," but I also gained some serious inspiration for how to empower those voices too easily silenced. A passionate alumna from my school, Esra’a Al Shafei started www.mideastyouth.com, a powerful platform for voices in countries where censorship constantly plagues the power of technology. In addition, Esra'a and one of her partners, Rima Kalush, constructed an online forum, http://www.migrant-rights.org/, which encourages the people and migrants who have access to speak out and get help with the injustices in the labor systems of the Gulf countries, while also helping spread awareness to those of us on the outside.
