I met her in Kenya as we traveled with Voiceless Children organization.
She is young, strong and creative...
The poem she wrote comes from her desire to get a chance in her life...

I Need A Chance

From the most terrible and poorest conditions
Besides a lot of troubles that changed my background
With the rolling tears all days and night
My soul was touched I think I am right
Give me a chance I want to try.

With education now I am able
Despite being a woman or an orphan
With education to the pilot I’ll talk
A visa I will be given to America or Denmark I will fly.
Give me a chance I want to try.

From misery and slavery I am no longer among
In dirty streets of our country I denied to stay
My name became a house girl why not a houseboy
Tradition is the past; I will fight for my rights
Give me a chance I want to try.

My parents dying of AIDS isn’t the door to poverty
Being infected isn’t the end of living
Merciless sugar daddies I will shame on you today
Your money is poisonous - My life is valuable
Give me a chance I want to try.

Stop backbiting me all languages I understand
Not only a cook – a manager I can be
White men for your support I am now something
Thanks is my lasting song rejoicing is my wish
Give me a chance I want to try.
