Spontaneous Bon Apetit!

We met with the team at the American Councils Office in Chisinau. The white bus was waiting to test the bumpy roads and the cool morning breeze set the records of a good sunny Saturday mood for the entire day. The mayor of Stefanesti was expecting us with the driver, announcing that in two and a half hour we will be in another part of the Moldova map, which neither me, nor Olesea were able to spot. Amy and Zach were waiting in the bus already, well equipped with all kind of devices that helped us throughout the day to monitor the water situation in the two villages. Soon we were out of the noisy life in the capital, astounded by watching through the window the clouds of priests that came into the city early in the morning, from all the country with their obedient people, to protest against tolerance and equal right of choice in religion, opting to introduce the subject of Orthodox Christianity in the school as mandatory.

Our eyes danced in the beauty of green plains, hills and vineyards which tempted to maintain a dialogue with azure sky. Meanwhile, my legs were concerned with a plastic bottle of Coca Cola and another soda water that were rolling on the floor. My mind flew away immediately to another realm of those who are thirsty and dreaming about a sip of real spring water. Some us have the possibility to indulge ourselves with bubbly and other fancy drinks, meanwhile there are those who live and dream about regular water. What if today we buy one bottle less, giving thus help to the ones that are in a desperate need?

Our first stop, just before learning about the beautiful landscape of the entire village seen from the hills was at the fuel station, another luxury of the day that provides gas, oil and kerosene to robotic cars... it is sad to know that we as humans would rather buy a car insurance, since our own health can wait. What people don't realize is the effect of such attitude which is slow but well focused on liver, kidneys and teeth killing more than 5 million people each year and placing water issue among last to consider priority in the list of life insurance.

What is the cause? We suspect to know the answer but we never say it loud. The effect of Stefanesti village is showing off on my desk today - while I write this small narrative... It is preserved in the plastic soda bottle, filled with water and something unexplainable else in it... I tasted it and brought back with me as a motivation... for a trial... for awareness... and maybe for a better life...

Following the scene with Julia Roberts, aka Erin Brokovich standing on behalf of the residents of Hinkley California who wish to file a lawsuit against Pacific Gas and Electric for damages, medical expenses, personal trauma due to the contamination of the groundwater in their area, I cannot forget her speech:

"... These people don't dream about being rich. They dream about being able to watch their kids swim in a pool without worrying they'll have to have a hysterectomy at age 20, like Rosa Diaz -- a client of ours -- or have their spine deteriorate like Stan Bloom... So before you come back here with another lame-ass offer, I want you to think real hard about what your spine is worth, Mr.Buda -- or what you'd expect someone to pay you for your uterus, Miss Sanchez --then you take out your calculator and multiply that number by a hundred. Anything less than that is a waste of our time. "

By the end of the speech Erin told one of the defense attorneys, who was trying to take a sip of water: "We had that water brought in special for you folks!"

Isn't that a message we should choose to work on today? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsAzbZuUAC4&playnext_from=TL&videos=VLYSM...
