Introducing Myself

Hello!

I was born in the Philippines but grew up in Oregon - in the Northwest of the United States. After high school, I immediately joined the U.S. Navy where I was able to live in different parts of the United States and travel to different parts of the Mediterranean and Middle East. After the Navy I got a job making electricity at a power plant to support the family while my husband went to college for his bachelors and then moved to support my husband pursuing his doctorate. I took the opportunity to also enter a program at the same university to get my doctorate. We are both first generation college graduates.

We now live in Oregon in a good community close to family. My husband works, doing work that is interesting to me, and I am fortunate enough to now be able to stay and focus on family and volunteer for organizations that align with my \"Passions\" and \"Visions for the Future\". Though things are not perfect and I have many ups and downs, I feel very fortunate to be in our situation.

Why I'm here: After having a daughter, I've never felt so strongly about social justice and empowering people to be safe and to be able to take care of themselves. But with the responsibilities to my family that I promised myself I would do once my husband and I are out of school, I don't know how to support these causes. I'm hoping by becoming involved with this community, I'm able to learn more about what women and girls around the world need and to be able to support them and World Pulse's mission - even if it is just with words from my computer at home.

My Passions:
Women and Girl Empowerment, Social Justice, Child Safety and Hunger and Education

My Challenges:
I don't like to read, when it comes to \"Fight or Flight\" I tend to do nothing, I fear failure, and many others.

My Vision for the Future:
Where women hold the same positions as men and are taken seriously, Where children are cherished and seen as the future to everyone.

My Areas of Expertise:
I'm still trying to figure that out.
