About Me:
Community development worker, A founder of Osotwa Community Network Tanzania(NGO) a for non profit making organisation, primarily is working for pastoralist and Agro pastoralist community.
According to Maasai who are the community we are serving, a women is allowed to own a chicken, and only a chicken as it is considered a low value property. even if a women brings cattle to the marriage relationship as soon as they are within the marriage home they belong to the husband. This is a big oppression to women from maasai community.
OCN Tanzania is striving to empower women economically in order for them to have dignity on resources possession.
We have 11 groups where each group consist 30 members in Tanzania they known as VICOBA (Village Community Bank) is for credit and saving their from pastoralist community.
We are working also with Women of Terrat ward who charcoal sellers, this business means women have to walk 75 km per day to go to look for charcoal, at the second day she has to rest and the 3rd day work more than 75 km to town to go to sell charcoal, worse enough no permanent or stable market so she has to work street to street looking for buyers.
We provided them sunflower seeds to plant, they have plant the challenge is a machine to process sunflower. we hope sunflower will used for food security and as cash crop.
We also working with women from Irkurot village. this women are casual laborers at white gravel excavation this women carry out 30 bags of 100kg and paid 3,000 Tsh . which is not enough for meal per one day.
