educate a woman and you educate a village

I think Evelyne Ello Hart said that to me. In Liberia I saw women in roles of leadership, with men listening to them. Candidly, whenever we wanted an answer or something done, we asked a woman.

Since I met Africans Evelyne, and Simon and Lucy and others living in Portland, I've wanted to organize a get together, where everyone dresses in clothes of their culture, brings a dish to share of their culture, has a little program, some singing and dancing and somehow the public and Africans learn about each other. Maybe a modest fund-raiser could be done, giving the proceeds to Evelyne to use or to send to Africa wherever folks vote to send it.

I just scanned the Membership of PulseWire and it looks like we have a good number of people who are not from the US who might be able duplicate something in their homelands.

I'll post a photo of a newborn girl I met less than an hour old. She has club feet and the nearest hopsital is 100 miles away. She needs transportation to the hospital for braces, exams, etc. Here is a concrete need and I know where to send money for her care that will safely get there. Maybe there is a local Portland need too?
