VOF Week 2 (The roads of Peace are always unfathomable)

I always thought that journalism could change the world. It was a kind of certainty that I feel inside, even those negative feedbacks that I was receiving around me… at the end of the day, it was also my own experience: all the words that I have been reading on during my life, were a kind of alchemy which finally were transforming me.

I am convinced that my personal story helped me so much to continue believing in my internal vision: I grew up in a family of 6 sisters and 1 brother (we use to say that our family is like snow white and 7 dwarfs in the opposite), and my parents were the first mix couple that dare to continue with their love, although the religion conventions in my small city (she was catholic, and he was protestant)

Growing up with potentials difficulties on your road, always help you to fight for your own space, for your own place in life, and I grew up with so many good examples of that kind of fights, (my older sister, for example, was the first woman engineer in my town, and many of her professors denied to start the class with her in the classroom)…. but also I learned that I had to deal with conflicts in a positive way, then your triumph in your own choices does not mean the defeat of somebody else

Life has her own way to show you the steps, and sometimes they are unfathomable to understand: me, the experimented journalist, who used to believe in their own ideas, and in the power of conflict resolutions, I suffered violence with my ex boy friend relationship. It was the darkness period of my life… but again, it was life that put me in the right way when I received a scholarship to study precisely, Culture of Peace in Barcelona in 2005.

Then, a renovated universe was opened in front of my eyes: because all my personal and professional beliefs took a new sense. I discovered that that we call “Peace Journalism”, and I decided to walk toward that road: because I understood that nothing “only happen to one person”, and that my experience was not only mine but of many “independent” women… I also discovered that they were so many peace initiatives as well as we could find violence in the world. I decided to “give them” the voice that they needed to exist

I started to dream with a new figure in journalism, “The Peace Correspondent” widely opposite to “The War Correspondent”… I understood that I needed inner peace, but it was not “only me”… that’s why my new “figure” could help to bring inner peace to others and in that way, to bring peace to world.

By applying to World Pulse, I wanted spread this new kind of journalism among others, and to search others voices ready to make this change of vision of the violence and the ways to solve it in the world
