Indeed my homeland Kenaya has lost one of the a bright and formidable women who fought for women and childresn rights, and environemntal sustainability and the First African woman to win the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for “her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace

Wanagare Maathai ,died of cancer last night.

\"Wangare Mathai stood courageuosly against the former oppressive regime in Kenya. Her unique forms of Action have contributed to drawing attention to political oppression - nationally and internationally. She served as an inspiration for many in the fight for democratic rights and has especially encouraged women better their situation.\"

This was the statements of the Norwegian Nobel Committee when announcing Wangare as the 2004 NObel Peace Prize Winner.

One of my favourite quotes on women was - \"African women in general need to know that it's OK for them to be the way they are - to see the way they are as a strength, and to be liberated from fear and from silence.
