Gender and Violence

There was an irresponsible man who found that there was little money in the house, after the end of his wife trade she kept the money to pay the rent. Unfortunately the husband ran away with it, and finished it in one week. Now the wife is wondering whether to leave or not the husband because she knows the story is going to repeat over and over again. In the end the woman decided to go look for her husband and she found him drinking in the village. She explained her husband that it’s always necessary to come back home: today the rent is very expensive.

Thank you my friends.

Thank you my friends.

I was so saddened to hear this story. Its so important that a man and a woman are a team in the management of the household and it seems this particular husband is being very irresponsible and he may have a serious drinking problem as well. My thoughts and prayers are with your friend and its important you know that not all men or husbands act this way. If it is possible for your friend to speak to a religious leader or compassionate male leader, maybe he can speak to this husband? Its often the case that men are more willing to hear reason from another man. In some communities there are groups of good men who travel the village helping men to do the right thing, not to drink the rent money and instead decide on financial issues together with the wife. I hope there are such men in your village, or perhaps a male relative that is sympathetic to your friends situation?

Good luck and stay positive that things can change if love and reason are used for change

I am so saddened by your story. I have read many blogs about your homeland and wonder where all the good men are? It is unreasonable to think that women can maintain their households and children's lives when the husband has a drinking problem. It is hard enough in your country without having to go through this as well. Are there people in your village who can help get your husband on the right path? Are there groups within the country that can provide you and your children with support and resources? You are courageous and I so respect your willingness to come forward and provide a voice for those under duress. Try to find help. Try to find understanding. You can help change the lives of others.

Peace,

Denise

I really like the way you wrote this. It was a look into one woman's life, but I know that it reflects many women. You are very observant, and I appreciate all that you have written here. Thanks for sharing.
