In my childhood memories, I can usually find a forest of coffee plants, heavy fruiting orange and guava trees and friendly farm animals. My grandfather took me along with him in the usual farm duties. They still gave him time to practice his free-of-charge medicine in a small office in front of the farm´s water tank.

I have spent over 15 years combating human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation of women and children. I founded and directed The Protection Project, a legal research institute at Harvard University (now at Johns Hopkins) that tracked the routes, patterns, and trends in human trafficking, as well as the laws addressing all forms of trafficking.
I am the Clinical Director of SAGE a non profit organization that is committed to addressing trauma in women who have survived abuse. I am utilizing EMDR a modality that addresses trauma through the nervous system. EMDR has been shown to be effective for PTSD in a quick and culturally adaptable way. I spent my training working with traumatized women from Cambodia.
