In my childhood memories, I can usually find a forest of coffee plants, heavy fruiting orange and guava trees and friendly farm animals. I have spent over 15 years combating human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation of women and children. I founded and directed The Protection Project, a legal research institute at Harvard University (now at Johns Hopkins) that tracked the routes, patterns, and trends in human trafficking, as well as the laws addressing all forms of trafficking.
I am the Clinical Director of SAGE a non profit organization that is committed to addressing trauma in women who have survived abuse. I am utilizing EMDR a modality that addresses trauma through the nervous system. EMDR has been shown to be effective for PTSD in a quick and culturally adaptable way. I spent my training working with traumatized women from Cambodia.
