BREAKING NEWS - Member of Judicial Service Commission stabbed in Maldives

This morning around 11am (Maldivian Time) I got the news that Aishath Velezinee was stabbed in 3 places on her back. Violence in Maldives is becoming second nature.

On 30th December, She was campaign on facebook and not everyone was happy about the her campaign. Some on facebook were attacking her at personal level, while others were supporting actions.

There is division among the nation and families. The status of the nation is not looking good at a beginning of new year. There is no excuse to stab a fellow citizen but again violence is getting more normalized in the country.

Youth gangs are now a common phenomenon and a citizen comments \"it is a downward spiral from what I can see policing isn't effective and there are more and more youth who are into gangs and stuff ... Rule of law is scoffed at even by normal citizens now as seen in how people break traffic laws even.\"

I was communicating with some people in Male' the capital of Maldives and \"this is so common in Male' now. its very dangerous here... lucky you are away. Another, person said \"... it didn't seem random from the news
and most stabbings are about some sort of gang activity.\"

Violence in becoming a norm. It is the ordinary that suffer during these upheavals and the country is stagnant. There is too much anger, hatred, fear and unhappiness driving the country to a bursting point. The silent suffer most. Their voice are not heard. Truth distorted.
