Let the Healing begin

I want every individual to wake up to a world:

Where a wife feels safe at the hands of her husband and in-laws,

Where a husband celebrates the talents of his wife rather than feeling challenged by them,

And knows that by being abusive to his better-half makes him not macho but beast,

Where a child heart doesn’t quiver at the sight of violence at home,

Where the mothers teach their sons that manliness lies in quashing away the urge of violence by sheer force of humanity and to respect female come what may,

Where the daughters are taught that their vulnerability is their asset indeed,

And that knight in shining armor is their belief in themselves.

For only peaceful and violence-free homes can translate into peaceful communities, societies and thus countries at large. This is my vision for a better and peaceful world. We the women have been blessed with a spirit imbued with phenomenal strength to bring on everlasting positive changes in our lives and as well as in others. We have nothing to prove to others but to ourselves.

At every stage of our life-cycle; be it when we are our parents’ daughters, our brothers’ sisters, our husband’s wives, our children’s mothers, mother-in-laws to our sons’ wives, we can put a full stop to the vicious circle of violence against women by upholding the values of equality, justice and humanity above our egos, insecurities and human vices at all times. Somehow by our silence, apathy and complacence, we become equally culpable in crimes against women. Origin of most of such crimes lies in the homes of the perpetrators.

I have seen in my community and in my personal life, the unfortunate tendency of women irrespective of their education and social class to derive pleasure and a sort of satisfaction from the sufferings and torture of other women. It is very sad but true. This can be well-illustrated by the fact that when a woman becomes a mother-in-law she starts debasing and tormenting her daughter-in-law in the same way or even worse than she was treated by her mother-in-law. This sick mentality of vengeance has to be crushed for once and all because it is sabotaging the intrinsic goodness of womanhood and depleting its strength.

When every female makes a conscientious decision to do whatever it takes in her capacity to voice out the wrongs being done to her or to those around her, then the masochistic thinking ingrained in the minds of females by their family would be rendered useless. When every woman stands up for another, the positive forces unleashed by this marvelous human-shield can bring the blissful healing to the ruptured female fabric of the human society.

The twist and turns that I have encountered in this journey of life have firmed up my faith in the vision. The realization of this vision calls for grand sensitization program on mass level in the developing societies. A substantial part of this program would focus on familiarizing and sensitizing females about the domestic evils that exist and thrive within the boundaries of their homes and sometime within themselves so that they are able to pick-up their rights from wrongs. Males of all classes have to be taught that masculinity begins and ends at humanity. What a better way to orchestrate this into a universal sensitization campaign than by being a Voices of Our Correspondent. It has the potential to play an indispensable role in this endeavor as it provides ample opportunities and a conducive environment to transform one’s constructive thought-process into meaningful and effective action by utilizing the experience, expertise and unwavering support of this wonderful community of World Pulse. I have found it to be more than a confluence of change-agents and thought-leaders.
