Reflections on Module 2
Jan 21, 2015
Story
Once again I find myself struggling with the feelings of actually being far from the front lines, a feeling that fills me with immense sadness. I might be physically away from my country, but my heart and mind are there. I wake up each day feeling blessed to be amongst all of you wonderful ladies, and having amazing mentors, who are helping me in this journey.
Module 2 was a particularly difficult one for me for a few reason. One is the feelings of being distant.
The second reason is that I am very passionate about the topic of fighting sexual assault, rape and harassment in Sudan; a topic of great importance which is overlooked in Sudanese society. We take so much pride in our culture that we tend to exclude what we fear as "inappropriate". I think this view needs to be changed. I had to fight through feelings of despair and frustration as I was writing my piece.
The third, is that the topic in itself was hard. Capturing the essence of what I wanted to convey and finding the right words was a bit hard, but having great mentors helped me in being able to phrase it correctly so that I can create my piece.
I was able to overcome all this by taking comfort in the fact that what I am doing here will one day bring good changes to the women in Sudan, and that I echo their voice here.
So thank you wonderful ladies, and thank you Lisa, and Victoria!
XOXOXOXO
