Introducing myself and my journal

About Me:
I think that violence against women is too commonplace, and too many people simply do and say nothing about it. Economic and social inequality, attitudes about women and girls and absence of effective laws all contribute to the problem. As an educated American woman who was raised in a loving, violence-free family, one might think that violence would not touch my life, but it has. It has touched my family and friends. The world we live in as women is one that few men can relate to: it is one in which the person we love and trust most can become a physical threat. It is one in which the legal system protects the rights of an accused rapist or abuser better than it protects the safety of a victim. Progress toward the eradication of violence will not be enough until domestic assault and rape are no longer realities of any woman's life.
