Forests and trees

Forests are an expanse of land planted with trees. A quarter of the earth’s surface is covered in forest. Forests are made up of a large variety of trees which play a very important role in agriculture and have an impact on the climate. They prevent the land from eroding and regulate the levels of humidity in the atmosphere through transpiration. Forests are a great source of commercial wealth for a country. Like all living things, trees eat, breathe and transpire; they can become ill or be hurt and are sensitive to hot and cold, flooding and drought. We use trees to construct buildings, furniture, railways and ships. Carpenters use trees to make planks of wood; trees are the main material used by carpenters for building furniture. I am a Congolese woman and I like talking about trees. Do you also like trees? As a word of advice to all Congolese women, we can look after our forest by not cutting down trees.
