A 'smile' costs nothing but creates so much!

Being in this world indeed is an experience. I recently visit the Women’s Reception Centre (WRC) in Mubende where we were shocked with stories of women and girls who have been abused. WRC has assisted them with legal aid and protection. During the discussion, (Hon. Ochero Norman) ; the District Chairperson, Abim Local Council remarked ...’ the most difficult person to provide security is a person who has nothing’. This was after listening to stories of women who have persisted the abuse by their husbands simply because they have nothing to fall back to but most importantly, do not know that it is their right to be treated without abuse.

I met a girl (14 years old) who has a baby of 9 months who is in the WRC to seek assistance. I had problems communicating with her but all she said was she did not know where the man who made her pregnant is and she studied only up to Primary school Four. (Picture attached).

Another story is about of Nazziwa whose both hands where cut off by her abusive husband (pictured attached). Naziwwa currently 20 years is living a hopeless life because of this abuse. http://www.actionaid.org/uganda/stories/nazziwas-story.

Yes , if the communities do not know their rights as women, children, men etc, the cases of abuse will continue to go not reported. We need to create awareness by giving information. It is my vision to be able to contribute to creating awareness to the communities around me.

But what drives me is not how big I give but how much I give; Its not how many I reach out to but who I reach out to. There is a famous saying that ' a smile costs nothing but creates so much' So i wish to be the 'smile' that costs not so much but creates so much. I mean by reaching out to women and girls; by providing them the information on their rights , this will change their lives thus creating so much.

Therefore my participation VOF will enable me learn from others (in WorldPulse) and improve my skills in achieving my vision and dream.

Its an opportunity I want to harness.
