New Born Love

My BOLD IDEA for 2009 is quite simple. Treat every single person as you would a newborn baby. With love, tenderness, compassion, patience and care. Could you imagine if we treated our spouses as well as we treat our babies? Every single day I tell Jonah how much I love him. I can never give him enough hugs and kisses. When he is upset, I don't get mad or impatient. I try to figure out what is wrong and make it better. And laugh? Oh, we love to laugh. All the time. We love to be together.

Could you imagine if we all treated our co-workers as well as we treat our babies? When Jonah is fussy or doesn't do what I want him to do (like sit still), I don't make up a story about WHY he is acting a certain way. He's a baby. He's just acting like a baby.

Could you imagine if we treated strangers as well as we treat our babies? A newborn baby is about as foreign as a person from another country. And although I was anxious when I brought Jonah home from the hospital, I didn't turn that anxiety into fear, which so often then manifests into violence. Instead, I stood in the uncomfortableness and got to know him for he is and understand his needs.

Could you imagine if we treated each like we treat our babies?
