Gays and Lesbians, Thou Shall Not Exist

In my country and in my community, homosexuality is beyond taboo. The hate people have for them is beyond comprehension. If a gay couple were caught, the population will most certainly lynch them.

Homosexuality is punishable by Cameroon law. If someone were caught in a homosexual practice, they could face 6months to five years of jail time.

I don't share this opinion at all. I think that gays and lesbians have their place in society because they are not bothering anyone.

In my country, almost everybody thinks that homosexuals are people who are engaged in occultism, satanism or witchcraft. Nobody wants to believe that these people may have been born this way.

I want to change their mentality but it is not easy. Everybody around me expresses disgust when the subject arises. I try in my own little way to explain why I feel the way I feel, why people should be allowed to love whoever they choose to love.

People use the Bible to hate gays and my response is liars, adulteres, and even thieves are not treated the way gays are treated here, and all these other set of people are sinners. So lynch and kill gays?

So while my country men and women say to gays and lesbians "thou shall not exist", I say loud and clear "thou shall love as thou pleases".
